Tour Plan

  • Arrival: Arrive in Uganda or Rwanda. Depending on your arrival time, you may fly into either Entebbe International Airport (Uganda) or Kigali International Airport (Rwanda).
  • Meet and Greet: Your guide will meet you at the airport and drive you to the gorilla tracking area.
    • In Uganda: Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (approx. 8-hour drive from Entebbe).
    • In Rwanda: Travel to Volcanoes National Park (approx. 2.5-hour drive from Kigali).
    • Afternoon:
      • Lunch: Enjoy a meal at a local restaurant or lodge en route to your accommodation.
      • Check-In: Arrive at your lodge, check-in, and enjoy some time to relax.
        • Lodging options range from mid-range to luxury lodges with stunning views of the park and the surrounding mountains.

      Evening:

      • Briefing: Attend a short briefing at your lodge regarding your gorilla trekking experience the following day.
      • Dinner and Overnight: Enjoy dinner at the lodge and relax in preparation for the adventure ahead.

Morning:

  • Early Breakfast: Have an early breakfast (usually around 6:00 AM).
  • Gorilla Trekking Briefing: Meet at the park headquarters (Bwindi or Volcanoes National Park) for a briefing on safety guidelines and the trekking protocol.
  • Trekking: Set off with your guide and a group of trekkers to track the gorillas. The trek can vary in length (2–6 hours), depending on where the gorillas are located.

Afternoon:

  • Gorilla Tracking: Once you locate the gorilla family, you’ll spend up to an hour observing and photographing these incredible creatures in their natural environment.
    • Expect to see mothers with babies, dominant males (silverbacks), and playful juveniles.
  • Picnic Lunch: A packed lunch will be provided during your trek if the journey takes longer than expected.

Late Afternoon:

  • Return to Lodge: After the tracking experience, return to your lodge.
  • Relax: You can relax at the lodge, enjoy some tea, and take in the scenic surroundings of the park.

Evening:

  • Dinner and Sharing Experiences: Dinner at your lodge, followed by a chance to share your experience with fellow trekkers.

Morning:

  • Optional Activities:
    • In Uganda: You can enjoy a community visit, a nature walk, or a cultural experience with the Batwa (Pygmies) around the Bwindi area.
    • In Rwanda: Consider a visit to the nearby Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund or a scenic hike to one of the park’s volcanic peaks for panoramic views.
  • Breakfast: After your activity, enjoy a hearty breakfast before preparing for departure.

Afternoon:

  • Departure: Transfer back to either Kigali (Rwanda) or Entebbe (Uganda). The drive back can take between 2.5 to 8 hours, depending on where you are based.
    • You may opt for a short flight back to Kigali or Entebbe if you are pressed for time.

Evening:

  • Arrive and Departure: Depending on flight times, you may catch your evening flight, or you can choose to stay overnight in Kigali or Entebbe if necessary.
